THE BEST FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE FOR GUT HEALTH IN EDINA, MINNESOTA!
 (Comprehensive Functional Medicine Gut Protocols)
  FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE at its BEST
Functional Medicine Experts Dr. Paul Deglmann and Dr. Kyle Warren have helped thousands dealing with  Gut and related Issues for the last 20 years. On this page they explain what Functional Medicine is and why it is so successfully in gut problems.

Dr. Paul's message to everyone dealing with gut Issues - "No gut issue is a life sentence. Whatever the condition many are told by their doctors  that their diagnosis is for life. You will just have to medicate through it. They are told your condition is "idiopathic," meaning they don't fully understand why it is happening. Functional Medicine is different. In our world  nothing is "idiopathic." There is always a reason or many times several reasons which combined reduce our body's ability to function optimally and heal itself. This is where we can help you. Functional Medicine is focused on how well the body is functioning, understanding what is holding it back, and removing the barriers to it doing what it is innately designed to do - Thrive."

If you are being treated for gut problems or gut-related systemic issues  with little to no long-term improvement and they keep recurring, please get a SECOND OPINION.

It is possible your gut testing was incomplete, you have underlying root issues that aren't being addressed and/or that your gut-brain axis (Vagus nerve) needs rehabilitation.

When it comes to Gut Problems the specialized team of Dr. Kyle Warren, DC, CFMP (Functional Medicine) and Dr. Paul Deglmann, DC, DACNB, FACFN (Functional Medicine and Neurology) have seen it all. Roughly one-third of their patients visited the top medical doctors in Minnesota, but were still seeking answers. These same patients found better long-term results with Dr. Kyle, and Dr. Paul, through more complete testing, Functional Medicine, and Functional Neurology at Restorative Health Solutions.

Patients report drastic improvement in their overall health. In addition to resolving their gut problems, patients often find a significant reduction in their auto-immune flare-ups. They have more energy and cognitive improvement, their allergies get better, their skin clears up, their headaches go away.

** This platform will help you understand if your health issues or mysterious symptoms could be due to your gut. Let's get to the bottom of why your gut problems don't completely go away. You will also learn about dysbiosis, Leaky Gut, SIBO, and how to rehab the Gut-Brain connection. **

Three main reasons the RHS Team has tremendous success in resolving and lowering the recurrence rate of Gut Problems in patients:

State-of-the-art
Lab Testing

If you don't want your gut problems to keep coming back, then guessing what might be wrong with you is not an option!

Comprehensive testing is key to identifying the underlying root cause of your gut problems.

When it comes to testing for our gut, not all tests are made equal. Dr. Paul and Dr. Kyle have a series of specialized tests that take the guesswork out of this process.

With proper testing, you also know your baseline and can measure progress and success.
Here are examples of some specialized tests:
  • Comprehensive blood test: Includes a CBC with differential (breakdown of white blood cells) and inflammatory markers
  • Food Sensitivity Testing: Vibrant Labs Food Sensitivity Panel (IgG, IgA) or Cyrex Labs Array 10-Multiple Food Immune Reactivity Panel (IgG, IgA)
  • Testing To Rule Out Infections: GI MAP Stool Test (looks at pathogens/microbes in the gut, inflammation, secretory IgA, etc; Cyrex Array 12-Pathogen Associated Immune Reactivity Screen
  • Toxin/Chemical/Mold Testing: Cyrex Array 11-Chemical Immune Reactivity Screen; Environbiomics-ERMI test for mold in the home or workplace
  • Intestinal Permeability Test: To figure out if you have a leaky gut.Vibrant Labs Intestinal Permeability Panel or Cyrex Labs Array 2 Intestinal Antigenic Permeability Screen

Comprehensive
5-step (5-R)
Gut Protocol

The gut is a group of organs that includes your mouth, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, and large intestine (includes the colon and rectum). It's a complex system.

When it comes to proper gut function, many things could go wrong.

When treating, it is critical to understand the source of the problem and not just address the symptoms.
Some common reasons for gut problems are:
  • Are the salivary glands producing enough saliva?
  • Hypochlorhydria (HCL deficiency): Are the parietal cells in the stomach making enough HCL?
  • Pancreatic enzyme deficiency
  • Liver function: Is there enough bile?
  • Gallbladder dysfunction or Gallbladder insufficiency
  • Intestinal malfunction: Poor absorption or malabsorption
  • Leaky Gut or Intestinal permeability issues
  • Issues with Large Intestine and colon: When the large intestine isn’t providing the proper electrolyte balance, hydration and beneficial bacteria, we can have symptoms
  • SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
  • Dysbiosis - Bacterial Imbalance
  • Candida and other yeast infections
  • Other infections

Rehabbing the
Gut-Brain Axis

When it comes to your health, it starts with the Gut, but your Brain controls everything.

If your GUT BRAIN-AXIS is not functioning optimally, you will experience recurring gut problems.

GUT HEALTH AFFECTS OUR BRAIN AND OUR BRAIN FUNCTION AFFECTS OUR GUT FUNCTION.

When dealing with gut problems long-term, it is essential to rehab the gut-brain axis. Here are some things you should know:
  • According to Functional Chiropractic Neurologist, Dr. Paul, your GUT BRAIN-AXIS is crucial to lowering the recurrence of the symptoms.
  • Most docs may help you with your gut symptoms, but very few address the gut-brain connection.
  • Functional Neurology becomes especially important when patients also exhibit neurological symptoms - such as some migraines, memory issues, brain fog, mental processing speed is an issue; decision making is an issue.
  • If someone experiences a concussion, and their gut-brain axis is impacted, invariably, they develop gut problems too.
  • The reverse is true, as well. Long term leaky gut and dysbiosis cause systemic issues in the body as well as neurological symptoms. For example, one characteristic of many Parkinson's patients is they've had constipation for a long time before the diagnosis.

Understanding Recurrent SIBO and how to fix this issue

Leaky Gut Syndrome:
When it comes to healing the gut or recovering from gut conditions, order and timing is everything.

If your house is on fire, the first step is to put out the fire before doing anything else. Fixing gut problems is the same way. The approach has to be orderly and well-timed.

Leaky Gut Syndrome, known medically as increased Intestinal Permeability, is a condition affecting the intestines that can cause various adverse reactions throughout the body. People with leaky gut may feel abdominal pain and bloating. They may develop Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS, fatigue, inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, and allergies, among other conditions.

At Restorative Health Solutions, a leading center for Functional Medicine & Chiropractic Neurology in Minnesota, Dr. Kyle Warren and Dr. Paul Deglmann specialize in Leaky Gut Syndrome. To learn about their protocol for Leaky Gut, please click here.

Getting to the root cause of SIBO -
Lowering the recurrence rate of SIBO with Functional Medicine and Functional Neurology.
(Especially in IBS patients)

At Restorative Health Solutions, we see SIBO as a stand-alone problem but also with other gut problems that people come in with, especially IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Since this problem is not adequately diagnosed in Western Medicine, we see many patients come in to see us with this problem. SIBO is an acronym for small intestine bacterial overgrowth. In this condition, the bacteria that are supposed to be lower in the gastrointestinal tract creep up to the small intestine where it doesn’t belong.

Some things about SIBO you should know:
  • People with long-term antibiotic use or long-term use of PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors) often develop SIBO.
  • In our practice, we find that most IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) patients suffer from SIBO as well.
  • Common symptoms are excessive bloating after eating (or a feeling of being full very quickly due to bloating), alternating diarrhea and constipation, and some nausea and pain.
  • Nutritionally these people often show signs of malnutrition, impaired absorption in the gut, and weight loss. They usually are deficient in essential vitamins and minerals our body needs.
  • Eventually, these patients also develop additional symptoms outside of the Gut.
  • Many doctors can address SIBO, but the biggest complaint these patients have is that their SIBO keeps coming back. For many patients, the recurrence rate of SIBO is 70%. At Restorative Health Solutions, we have been able to lower the recurrence to less than 10%. Dr. Kyle explains why!

Resolving IBS with Functional Medicine

Up to 30 to 40 percent of the population has functional bowel problems such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, pain, and upset stomach, at some point.
